STAGE 3 English for Upper Primary Students:

LEARNING OUTCOMES

TS3.1 Communicates effectively for a range of purposes and with a variety of audiences to express well-developed, well-organised ideas dealing with challenging topics.
RS3.7 Critically analyses techniques used by writes to create certain effects, to use language creatively, to position the reader in various ways and to construct different interpretations of experience.

STAGE 4 and 5 English for Junior Secondary Students:

SYLLABUS RATIONALE

2. It is mainly though language that human beings explore their public and private worlds, organise their experiences and form their values.
4. The contexts in which students should engage in language learning activites are everyday communication and personal expression, literature and the mass media.

OBJECTIVES

C5. The objective is that students experience, enjoy and respond sensitively and perceptively to mass media.
C5. Active engagement with the mass media allows students to use language in relevant and interesting contexts, and in turn, to develop their abilities as users of English.

STAGE 6 English for Senior Secondary Students:

SYLLABUS RATIONALE

1. Students come to understand the complexity of meaning, to compose and respond to texts according to their form, content, purpose and audience and to appreciate the personal, social, historical, cultural and workplace contexts that produce and value them.
2. Students devlop the faculty to perceive and understand the world from a variety of perspectives, enabling them to appreciatiate the richness of Australian cultural diversity.
3. To enable students uderstand, use, enjoy and value the English language in its various textual forms and to become thoughtful, imaginative and effective communicators in a diverse and changing society.

SKILLS AND OUTCOMES

9.3 Students will develop skills in:
- effective communication
- individual and collaborative learning
- investigation, imaginative and critical thinking
9.3 Students will come to value and appreciate:
- English as a language of communication and culture
- the role of language in developing positive interaction and cooperation
- appropriateness, subtlety and aesthetics in language use.
